ACIEM now routinely offers 3D laser scanning, providing an enhanced and efficient service for clients.
3D laser scanning is a non-contact technology that digitally captures the shape of physical objects of existing buildings, infrastructure and water treatment sites using a line of laser light. As an internal ACIEM capability, this has obvious advantages for clients when combined with ACIEM’s extensive operational MEICA delivery.
3D laser scanning is only the first stage in most 3D data capture projects. Most of the value is in the conversion of this 3D data into a usable model that meets the client’s requirements, such as:
• BIM (Building Information Modelling)
• Revit modelling
• AutoCAD 3D modelling and 2D drawings
• Measured building surveys
• Topographic surveys
• As-built surveys
BIM capabilities and 3D modelling are now an integral part of the ACIEM offering, providing improved efficiency as well as assisting with tasks such as design co-ordination, clash avoidance and clash detection, approvals processes, design development and estimating.
CAD Engineer, Richard Harris, is enthusiastic about this development. “As a result of offering BIM capabilities and 3D modelling – along with 3D laser scanning – ACIEM can provide accurate, detailed representations of engineering principles. This is an exciting time to be involved with new technologies, and ACIEM strives to be at the forefront of the industry in this regard.”
