CASE STUDY: ACIEM PROVIDES LOLER SUPPORT FOR YORKSHIRE WATER

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

ACIEM have, to-date, replaced approximately 530 chains and shackles, varying from 500kg to 11 tonnes, for LOLER projects LOLER Year1, Year2 and undertaken emergency works. Over the past 12 months the business has learnt, adapted, innovated and changed the way we work. We have a number of specialist full time gangs and have invested in specialist equipment which will enable us to complete 85% of chains on our first visit.

Examples of some of the works undertaken include:

As part of the survey/inspection of sites, consideration is given to any delay or interruption to process flow including to telemetry and assistance. ACIEM has undertaken various works including:

  • Lifting of pumps using existing chains.
  • Washed down pumps and identified whether ex-rated.
  • If ex-rated tagged to either local junction box or MCC.
  • Removed old chains and installed new chains totalling approximately 2500 metres of Chains.

Challenges / Looking Forward

ACIEM are working closely with Yorkshire Water to develop procedures for inspection and testing to eliminate a first response, replacement of chains by introducing a risk based inspection process.

The next steps involve on-going planning and co-ordination to survey and potentially replace another 1200 chains,  with a continual focus on improving productivity.
