ACIEM was Highly Commended at the recent Building Safety Group (BSG) Health & Safety Awards ceremony, held at the Williams F1 Conference Centre in Oxfordshire, which recognises members’ achievements and excellence in work-related health and safety performance.
A finalist in the BSG Project Award category, ACIEM was recognised for its Sluvad Water Treatment Works project for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. This project included the installation of a polyelectrolyte dosing and a phosphate removal dosing plant, together with associated equipment and control systems, enabling 172 megalitres per day of waste wash water to be re-used as drinking water. Previously the wastewater had been used to supply a steelworks but when that closed a large amount of water became available for alternative uses. The project demonstrated ACIEM’s ability to work safely under difficult conditions including working at height, deep excavations and hazards associated with working near large volumes of water.
Tony Dryden, Operations Director, said, “This is the first time we have entered the BSG Health & Safety Awards and we’re delighted to have been Highly Commended as the runner-up for the Project Award. We were up against some stiff competition, with eleven projects shortlisted in total for the award.”
