ACIEM Group Limited has opened a new office and workshop near Port Talbot in Wales in the first step of an ambitious growth plan that aims to double the company’s turnover in one year.

Five permanent members of staff have been successfully recruited over the past 12 months for the work at the new office in Baglan, with another eight to ten jobs likely to be created there within the next year.

ACIEM specialises in mechanical, electrical and civil engineering, design and construction. Following a management buyout in August 2016, plans were swiftly put in place to stabilise and expand the business.

Martin Whitfield, Managing Director at ACIEM, said, “We are proud to open our new office in Wales, which represents the first step in our growth plan and something of a new start for ACIEM following the management buyout last year. Having focused in the first instance on stabilising the business and ensuring a strong trading position, our attention this year turns to expansion and diversification.

“Our client base in the water industry has grown and we have some other significant opportunities on the horizon, so we are looking to develop a network of offices across the country, providing local service on a national scale. As part of this expansion, we are planning to create more than 40 new jobs this year alone.”

Michael Williams, Framework Manager at the new site, said, “The Baglan office will deliver projects for clients including Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and Bristol Water Frameworks, as well as opening up potential growth areas in other parts of Wales. Baglan was strategically selected due to the excellent transportation links and local skilled labour availability. The off-site build facility is also located at Baglan, which maximises productivity and reduces build times – key AMP6 drivers for clients.”

Tony Dryden, Operations Director, added, “The establishment of the new ACIEM regional office and workshop facilities in Wales represents a significant strengthening of the services that ACIEM is able to bring to clients and partners in Wales and the West of England, particularly with regard to design, manufacturing and assembly of off-site packaged engineering solutions.”

With a trading history in excess of 25 years, ACIEM was originally known as Damar Engineering and later Damar Group Ltd. Initially a specialist mechanical and electrical contractor providing repair and maintenance services within the water industry, the business has evolved into a multi-disciplined service provider that delivers innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions to a wide range of complex engineering projects. In addition to winning multiple awards for health and safety management, ACIEM has been recognised by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and CEEQUAL for the quality of its work.
