DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
ACIEM has recently completed a £300k project to upgrade the ventilation systems at the Swansea Bay Wastewater Treatment Works. The system required modification to ensure that occupied spaces such as offices, control room and other operational areas remained under positive pressure, preventing potential atmospheric contamination. ACIEM provided a full turnkey package for all MEICA elements of the project, including managing a specialist air pollution and odour control contractor.
Challenges / Looking Forward
The project team faced a number of challenges during the contract, including difficult access to the first floor ducting, which was situated at a high level within a tight space and above an existing MCC. In addition, the original design supplied to show the existing ductwork did not accurately match the ducting that was present, so sizes and routes needed to be adapted to ensure the correct install.
Despite all of this, thanks to ACIEM’s efficiency and good workmanship, the scheme was completed three weeks ahead of schedule. This was due to ACIEM’s ability to provide many different services, including manufacturing the control panels in-house, which allows for a more efficient and economical approach.
